J1: President Kiir reconstituted the National Dialogue Steering Committee #SouthSudan #SSudan

President Kiir yesterday reconstituted the membership of the National Dialogue Steering committee through Republican Order number 8/2017. This follows the resignation of Retired Bishop Paride Taban as Co-Chair in early March.

The newly reconstituted Steering Committee will be Co- Chaired by Hon. Abel Alier and Hon. Angelo Beda. The Vice chair is Hon. Gabriel Yol Dok. Hon. Bona Malual Madut and Amb. Francis Mading Deng will be acting as the Rapporteur and deputy Rapporteur respectively. Dr. William Othon will also be a Deputy Rapporteur.

Several prominent members from each community across South Sudan were appointed into the Steering Committee including General James Hoth Mai, General Pieng Deng Kuol, Sheikh Juma Musa Said, Hon. Joseph Ukel Obango, Hon. Clement Wani Konga and several religious leaders.

Most notably, the newly appointed steering committee includes Mrs. Rebecca Nyandeng De-Mabior, a vocal critic of the National Dialogue, and Mr. Kosti Manibe.

Foreign External members of the National Dialogue Steering Committee include, Bethwel Kiplagat, General Lazaro Sumbeiywo and Reverend Samuel Kobia representing Kenya. General Sumbeiywo was appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta in December 2013 as a peace mediator for South Sudan. He brings extensive experience as he was part of the team which negotiated the crisis in Sudan hallmarked by the signing of the CPA in 2005.

All the neighbouring countries will have a representative in the Steering Committee. The secretariat will be composed of 2 members from the Centre for Peace and Development Studies, 2 members from the Ebony Centre, 3 members from the South Sudan Council of Churches and 1 member from the Islamic Council.
