(KUAJOK, WS) – Warrap State Assembly has passed a bill to extend the tenure of governor Nyandeng Malek for another three years. The mandate of the state’s assembly will also be extended until 2018.
The motion was passed amid protests and deployment of security forces at the premises of the parliament. Governor Malek claims security was deployed in response to reports that some protestors wanted to cause disorder during the debate.
The governor also recently accused other politicians of being behind the protests.
Malek has served as the governor of Warrap since 2010.
